Your Card for Today: Knight of Pentacles

Knight of pentsFrom my Spirit within the Shadows Tarotwe have the Knight of Pentacles.

I have grown particularly fond of this Knight over the years. He knows that nothing comes without hard work and effort. He is one of the world’s fighters. You just might not realise it because he doesn’t make a grab at the limelight.

This particular Knight of Pentacles stands and looks right at us. He is still young but strong. Behind him, he has his lawnmower, so we could make the assumption that he is a landscape gardener or someone doing a few odd jobs to earn some extra money. This guy doesn’t mind rolling up his sleeves and getting down to the task at hand. He understands that anything worthwhile takes time and his focus is fixed on a greater prize.

Take a moment to think about what you want. I don’t mean the stuff-of-tomorrow. I mean those things which you’ll only reap rewards from after time and commitment. Is there something which you can invest in now, which you’ll benefit from at a later date? Maybe you are involved in something which you’re putting a lot of energy into but are not seeing bear fruit just yet.

Today’s card advises you to adopt a bigger-picture-mentality. The real important stuff takes time and belief. Remember that each step you take is as important as the last and next one. The Knight of Pentacles may not get to his destination any time soon .. but take comfort in knowing that he will get there!

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end” – Ernest Hemingway.

  1. That’s something that I often forget about this knight – that long-term commitments don’t scare him a bit when he’s got an objective in mind. Thanks for the reminder! 🙂

  2. Love this Knight as a landscape gardener 🙂 And yes, there is much to recommend his focused hard work. I’ve never really thought of him as a big-picture type, though. I see him getting on with things because they need doing, but hadn’t necessarily put that together with him having a clear goal in mind…

    • I guess you could look at him both ways. He is very focused on the moment, as you say, but he also knows that it is hard work which gets him where he needs to be. I like the idea of him being a gardener, also 🙂
